Despite speculation the franchise could be scrapped after Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, Lawrence said Ebony magazine “We have at least one more.”
In January 2023, Smith shared a video on Instagram revealing he was visiting Lawrence to prep for the film. Once there, Lawrence opened the door and asked with a smile, “Is it around that time?” Smith captioned the clip, “IT’S ABOUT THIS TIME!”
