That seems like a fair enough assessment that you probably don’t want your kids watching this one unless they are, at the very least, teenagers themselves. “Superbad” is the kind of movie that goes above and beyond in almost every case for its own good. Although it provides a hilarious viewing experience, it can certainly be extremely inappropriate for viewers of a certain age.
While a few bursts of graphic violence are played mostly for laughs, “Superbad” is mostly questionable viewing based on its dialogue. If you’ve seen “South Park” or “Beavis and Butt-Head,” you’ll already have a pretty good idea of what to expect here, live-action only.
Since “Superbad” is about trying to make the most of high school parties as its protagonists face the looming prospect of adulthood, the film uses the excitement of adolescence as essentially its second language. The characters talk about sex regularly, and there are plenty of references to bodily fluids as well as outright nudity.
Still, based on the charisma of its likable cast and ultimately hopeful writing, “Superbad” emerges as a movie that will get your kids some positive messages even as they scoff into oblivion. Either way, you’ll probably want them to be at least 13 or 14 before sitting down with this one.
