Another rowdy group of teenagers took to the streets of downtown Chicago on Saturday night, and police responded with a large contingent. According to local stories and images shared on social media, hundreds of young people marched to Millennium Park, home to Chicago’s famous Cloud Gate “Bean” sculpture, smashing car windows and jumping on moving cars.
FOX 32 At the park, according to reports from Chicago, police helped escort tourists and others to their vehicles. However, a man was beaten after teenagers jumped on the windshield of his car. For medical attention, the victim was transferred to the hospital.
As bullets were fired near the intersection of Madison and Michigan Avenue, the same news station said it even chose not to hold its team in place. According to the police, two young people aged 16 and 17 were shot dead around 9 p.m.
In a chat with FOX 32, a Chicago resident cited “bad parenting” as the cause of the messy party. Where are the children’s parents? That’s my question, said the woman.
A 14-year-old child was shot in the thigh during a similar rally Friday night at 31st Street Beach, resulting in his hospitalization. According to ABC station WLS, police have arrested a 17-year-old who has been charged in connection with the incident.
After Friday night’s rally, Chicago police said in a statement that they are “continuously monitoring and adjusting resources as necessary so residents and visitors can safely enjoy the city, including our beaches. and the lakeside area”.
“Last night, CPD monitored activity taking place throughout the city, and officers were in place to respond quickly to active incidents and large gatherings,” the statement said. As we try to improve safety in each community, we will still have enough resources available.
CBS Chicago reported that some 150 young people gathered at the same park on Wednesday for the first “large group” incident of the season as warmer weather and spring arrived.
These gatherings apparently begin with invitations circulating on social media, and they also took place the previous year.
Chicago established regulations this spring requiring children under 18 to be accompanied by an adult to enter Millennium Park in the evening after 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday in an effort to quell such disorderly gatherings.
