First of all, a big thank you to Pep Guardiola for being kind enough to play a fake version of himself, who ends up losing the most important game against Richmond but still shows the right spirit by praising coach Ted and his former player Jamie Tartt.
At this point in the season, Ted Lasso has hit a ceiling he can’t fall from, barring some miraculously poor writing. Of course, it never fails to deliver, and the most recent episode is no exception.
The penultimate episode of the season is a triumph on all fronts, both on the emotional stakes and on the story. At seventy-two minutes, it’s also the longest episode of the series, but it leaves you wanting more.
Season 3 Episode 11 Recap: Ted Lasso’s “Mom City”
Currently, on a 15-game winning streak, Richmond will face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. If Richmond wins they will be able to win the championship, but if they lose City will be crowned champions. Ted is surprised by a visitor the day before the match.
What’s up, Mother Lasso?
Coach Lasso’s mother, Dottie, is now traveling through Europe and has chosen to pay a surprise visit to her son.
Mother Lasso quickly wins the hearts of all of Richmond, further proving that Ted is, in fact, her son. Despite the abundance of sweet treats, tensions between mother and son persist.
Recording with Nate, the Great
I think Nate’s development this season is one of the most fascinating plot points of the show. In this episode, he surprises everyone by working as a waiter at “A Taste of Athens”, including his girlfriend, who is now his colleague. Hotel guests guess that Nate’s recent troubles can be traced to drugs.
Meanwhile, Colin, Issac, and Will head to the restaurant to ask Nate if he’d like to come back, marking Nate’s first real date with his previous tribe (other than the awkward brush with Ted in the episode). 4). Nate refuses because he doesn’t feel able to return to Richmond after what he did there.
When Ted hears about Nate’s new job at Richmond HQ, he may decide to give him a second chance and invite him back. While Roy is on board, Nate the “Judas” is not greeted by Coach Beard.

Let’s talk about Jamie Tartt
One of the best televised redemption stories, Jamie Tartt, is in the midst of a personal crisis. They have a big game against Manchester City ahead, and Richmond’s number nine is understandably nervous about entering his former club’s stadium and, more importantly, possibly meeting his disapproving father.
Roy, visibly worried, enlists Keeley’s help in reaching out to Jamie, but the day before the game, Jamie becomes much more anxious than before.
When Roy and Keeley see Jamie coming out of their hotel in Manchester, they follow him. When Jamie realizes the pair are following him, he decides to take them with him. He was, no doubt, planning a trip home to see Mom.
Jamie’s mom and stepdad are overjoyed to have his son and his girlfriend. Jamie and his mother have a heart-to-heart, which effectively dispels all of his internal misgivings, while his stepfather shows Roy and Keeley around their home, the highlight of which is Jamie’s bedroom.
What Happened at the End of Ted Lasso (Season 3, Episode 11)
I thought this episode was mostly about parenthood, specifically the bond between a mother and a son. Both Ted and Jamie seem to have mothers who adore them unconditionally, but there is a clear distinction between their relationships. While Jamie’s mother never tried to hide the truth from her or make her feel like everything was fine when she knew it wasn’t.
Despite her deep feelings for Ted, Ted’s mother kept her feelings for her, a trait he embraced. The Ted we meet is just as optimistic as Dottie, but like his mother, he holds back a lot of emotions. At the end of the episode, an agitated Ted confronts his mother and the two end up having a real conversation.

Dr. Sharon is practically the season’s MVP despite her minor role, as Ted openly acknowledges that seeing a therapist has benefited him.
Conclusion
Ted Lasso’s “Mom City” is a triumph on all fronts, delivering both emotional stakes and story. Nate’s development this season is one of the most compelling plot points, but it’s not been well received by Coach Beard.
Jamie Tartt and his mother have a heart-to-heart, dispelling his internal apprehensions, and Ted confronts his mother at the end of the episode. Dr. Sharon is the MVP of the season.
