On a rather quiet day on October 18, 2022, Landmark Atlanta dealership reported a suspicious couple trying to buy a car with fake IDs. The dealer’s sharp-eyed sales team quickly alerted police in nearby Chamblee, who immediately launched an investigation.
Local police responded quickly and approached the couple upon their arrival at the dealership. Officers asked to see proper identification as routine, but the couple surprisingly claimed they were unable to produce such documents. They also said they only met the day before, denying any previous involvement in the fraud.
The situation was unusual, caused a stir in the community and highlighted the importance of proper identification and security measures in businesses.
After realizing the seriousness of the situation, police took the couple into custody and handcuffed them while they investigated. A search of the suspect’s bag revealed several false identity documents, prompting the suspect to admit that the Mercedes they arrived in belonged to him. The discovery of additional fraudulent identity documents in the vehicle further heightened suspicions of foul play.
After being told of the seriousness of their actions, the two suspects turned themselves in and were remanded to the DeKalb County Jail for identity theft and using fake IDs.
