Salman Rushdie is a noted Indian-born British-American novelist. Most of his work often combines magic realism with historical fiction and primarily deals with connections, disruptions, and migrations between Eastern and Western civilizations. Rushdie was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1983.
In 1999, he became a Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France. He was knighted in 2007 for his services to literature. Rushdie taught at Emory University and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
