A newlywed spanned at his wife after she tried to talk his sister into taking her six-year-old son home after she noticed he was wearing white.
Reddit user U/LifeTraining3452 turned to the online community to ask for advice after he slammed his new wife as “selfish” for trying to kick the boy out.
He said the bride became angry after realising the six-year-old was wearing white jeans and a white bowtie at their strictly no-white dress code.
The man realised something was wrong when he spotted his “upset” wife leaving the reception to hide in the bathroom.
He said: “She told me that one of our nephews was wearing white jeans and a white bow tie. I immediately thought to myself how she was completely overreacting because he’s a six-year-old child and had no idea that you can’t wear white to a wedding.

“I told her she was overreacting but in a much nicer way and I said that she should go enjoy the reception and forget about the whole thing.
“She eventually texted her sister to come to the bathroom and fix her makeup so she could go back out and have a good night.
“After a while, I saw her talking to my sister, the mom of our nephew, and I thought she was just making conversation. About an hour later my sister pulled me aside and berated me for my wife’s behaviour.
“She said my wife had asked her and her son to leave unless she had a change of clothes for him.”
The man confronted his bride, who insisted she was “completely in the right” to ask his sister to take the boy home.
But he immediately warned her that he would also leave the reception if she insisted on kicking his nephew out.
He continued: “My wife started crying again and saying that this is her day and she doesn’t want it to be ruined by our nephew.
“This angered me because I had enough of her ruining our day over something silly. I then said she was not only selfish but that she was insanely insecure if she was worried about a six-year-old looking better than her.
“My wife’s been staying with her mother since the wedding and we haven’t spoken once. Her mom reached out to me this morning and said that I need to apologise right away for being “out of line.”
Reddit users quickly rushed to offer their opinion on the incident, with a majority agreeing with the groom that his new wife had overreacted.
One user said: “It’s a 6-year-old in a bowtie. Did she think people would confuse him for the bride? Is she 3ft tall, and was she wearing a bowtie? She was insecure and selfish.
“It wasn’t ‘her’ day. It was both of your day. And she ruined it by throwing a tantrum.”
Another said: “Her reaction was really extreme, and I can’t make sense of why what that child was wearing even matters.”
And one user pointed out: “Rules about white at weddings is always about keeping people from looking like they are wearing wedding dresses. I don’t think anyone thinks that a 6-year-old wearing white pants at a wedding is pushing limits.”
Etiquette expert Jacqueline Whitmore argued the bride should have let the issue go and that while she had a right to decide the dress code, the six-year-old was not to blame.
Whitmore told Fox News Digital: “Perhaps his mother thought the ‘no white’ rule applied to women only. Who knows?
“As long as the little boy was appropriately dressed and was not creating chaos in any way, I would have advised the bride to let it go.”
