Met Police are assessing video of Laurence Fox burning LGBTQ+ buntings in her garden.
Fox, who is preparing to run for Boris Johnson’s Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency, used a lighter in his home to set fire to the display on Father’s Day.

The video sparked an outcry on Twitter, including user Matthew who wrote: ‘I have submitted this video to the police as a hate crime. This man has gotten away with it for far too long.
What is the Progress Pride flag and why has it caused controversy?
The flag Laurence Fox burned was the Progress Pride flag, designed by artist Daniel Quasar in 2018.
This is a variation of the original Pride flag designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978, which had stripes colored to evoke a rainbow – this being a symbol of hope.
Quasar, who is a non-binary American designer, has previously said his version has an arrow pointing to the right “to show forward movement” and to illustrate that progress towards inclusivity “still needs to be made”.

The Progress Pride flag has right-pointing black, brown, pink, pale blue, and white stripes. The flag aims to represent marginalized LGBTQ+ people of color, as well as trans people and people living with HIV/AIDS.
But the flag has caused divisions within the LGBTQ+ communities – with some saying Baker’s original pride flag didn’t need to be changed, while others say it was necessary to represent the communities marginalized.
Concerns have also been raised by LGBTQ+ people of color that there was insufficient community consultation before the flag was created, but Quasar has denied this.
Much of the debate also dates back to the addition of the “T” in “LGBT” in the 1990s, with some arguing that the LGB community should be limited to sexual identity only, not gender identity. The Q was later added for Queer in 2016, with the “+” to represent those who do not identify with any of the letters of the acronym.
A new version of the Progress Pride flag was made by Valentino Vecchietti of Intersex Equality Rights UK in 2021, which featured a yellow triangle and a purple circle to represent intersex people.
Fox fired back, saying he hoped the police would “visit me.”
“I look forward to them explaining to me that I committed a hate crime by burning an icon of child mutilation, but the doctors who cut off the vulnerable and healthy breasts of young girls and the penises of young boys didn’t,” he said.

A Met Police spokesman told MailOnline today that officers were ‘aware of a video posted on social media of the burning of the Pride flags’.
The force is currently evaluating the footage and investigations are ongoing.

It comes after Fox returned to Twitter unrepentant in June after being suspended for posting a swastika made from LGBT flags.
He is now preparing to race in the race to replace Boris Johnson as MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip in west London.
His acting career has taken a back seat in recent years as he made a name for himself as a political activist, but he appeared in Hunter Biden’s film My Son Hunter last year.
Fox has also been candid about Covid vaccines, and a doctor told him “I sometimes wonder why you exist” during a heated debate on GB News in April.
