The 29-year-old Little Mix star has spent years battling insecurities about her appearance and her worries have intensified because she has been targeted by bullies who have made her life hell – and Perrie admits she wanted to take drastic measures to change herself.
She told Grazia magazine: “When I was younger I was a bit anxious, I hated my freckles, I was always quite poor and anemic so I had dark circles under my eyes, I I was really malnourished and skinny, and I had a big scar on my stomach from operations.
“I hated everything. People bullied me, and I think it was something that I was internalizing. Everyone was criticizing me, and that made me criticize myself. I asked my mom if I I could give myself an acid peel to get rid of my freckles.
However, Perrie eventually learned to love the way she looks and she is convinced that confidence is something that comes with age.
She added: “I think confidence and empowerment comes with age, you learn not to care what other people think.”
Perrie previously said she was bullied because of her freckles in a 2018 interview on British TV show ‘Lorraine’, admitting it took her a long time to embrace her natural beauty.
She said: “As I get older, they [freckles] would come out in the sun, but when I was younger they were there all the time, and I remember they called me “freckle face” and everyone was criticizing them.
“Everyone has their own insecurities, and I think that’s why we as a group want to be able to teach our fans that being yourself is enough. Embrace your insecurities because that’s what makes you happy. makes it different and unique.
