Oprah and the cast of ‘The Color Purple’ react to the first trailer

Oprah Winfrey and the cast of the upcoming musical, The purple colorhad an unforgettable moment coming together for a photo shoot with Essence.

Oprah, who serves as the film’s executive producer, shared the first trailer with the cast ahead of its official release on Monday afternoon.

Dressed in a white bathrobe, like the rest of the ladies, Oprah posted the moment on TikTok and told the cast she wanted them to watch the trailer before anyone else.

“The world is about to see it, and I think you should see it before the world sees it,” Oprah said before performing.

The anticipation was palpable as she, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks and Fantasia Barrino awaited the big reveal.

As the trailer played, they were amazed, shocked, and bursting with joy, laughing and encouraging each other.

Oprah grabbed Fantasia’s hand during her scene and then held Taraji’s hand during hers.

“Oh my God, this is going to be so amazing,” Henson said near the end of the trailer.

SHE added: “Oh my God. I could cry.”

Directed by Blitz Bazawule, known for his work on “Black is King”, the film also stars Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

This adaptation of The purple color once again marks Oprah’s collaboration with Steven Spielberg, as they bring the beloved Tony Award-winning musical to the big screen as a musical.

The purple color hits theaters on December 25, 2023.
