Nutrition Coach Recommends Four Hydrating Foods to Lower Cholesterol

High cholesterol is a precursor to serious health problems, ranging from heart disease to stroke. Therefore, it is imperative to control your reading.

While a healthy diet is a great way to tame the waxy stuff, hot summer temperatures often make people less hungry due to the body’s emphasis on keeping cool.

Fortunately, there are light foods that could not only control your cholesterol levels, but also keep you hydrated, according to nutrition coach Lisa Marley.


Containing 92% water, watermelon is synonymous with summer for a reason.

Marley said: “A 160g serving contains over 120ml of water, so you should aim to eat that amount per day.”

The easy-to-eat snack also contains an antioxidant called lycopene, which has previously been linked to lower levels of total cholesterol and “bad” cholesterol.


Another “moisturizing” staple is cucumber and its 95% water content which can not only replenish your body but also your skin.

“Cucumbers are rich in anti-inflammatory compounds that help remove waste from the body and reduce skin irritation,” the nutrition coach says.

The juicy vegetable also contains a type of soluble fiber, called pectin, which may help lower your cholesterol levels.

Red peppers

Packed with water, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, red bell peppers are considered the most nutritious because they’ve been on the vine the longest.

Marley added, “They are also a good source of cholesterol-lowering soluble fiber. To reap the full benefits, it’s best to eat one large red bell pepper daily.

Soy yogurt

Yogurt is not only extremely hydrating, but it also pairs well with other water-based staples, including vegetables and fruits.

In addition to being high in water, soy yogurt is very low in saturated fat, which is good news for cholesterol.

The nutrition coach added, “Reducing saturated fat intake, as part of a balanced diet and lifestyle, helps maintain normal cholesterol levels.”
