She began as a freelance news reporter at the station. Prior to joining WCVB, she worked for WAGA-TV FOX 5 in Atlanta, Georgia as a news reporter for 2 years. Estaphan’s reporting journey took her through various locations, including Utica, New York; Providence, Rhode Island; and Burlington, Vermont. While in the South, she had the privilege of conducting the final televised interview with Maya Angelou (a famous poet).
Notably, her contributions extended to Georgia-focused coverage for “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.” During her time in Georgia, Estaphan’s impactful work was recognized at the state level for her series of reports on a neighborhood contaminated by military waste dumping, which had left behind harmful chemicals believed to be linked to a cancer cluster. Although the military never admitted fault, Estaphan’s diligent reporting played a significant role in prompting immediate mitigation efforts.
During her tenure at WCVB, Estaphan dedicated her time to contributing to Marine Ecosystems Study (NAAMES) and NASA’s North Atlantic Aerosols documentary project. Her involvement included capturing footage for 2 full months in the North Atlantic. This marked a significant milestone as the 1st instance of a journalist being embedded with a NASA sea mission for such an extended period. Additionally, Estaphan has taken on producing roles for The Discovery Channel.
Estaphan likes volunteering work in her spare time. She emcees/hosts for Girls, Inc., The National Brain Tumor Society, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
