Nancy Pelosi is seeking reelection in 2024.
The 83-year-old Democratic representative for the United States previously stepped down as Speaker of the House earlier in 2023. However, Pelosi is gearing up for next year’s election season; Team Pelosi announced her intention to seek re-election for her seat in the US Congress earlier today, September 8th.
Pelosi, who represents California’s 11th district, detailed her intentions for reelection in an X (formerly Twitter) post.
Pelosi Announces Intention To Retain Her Congressional Seat
Former Speaker Pelosi took to X, writing, “Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote. -Nancy.”
If the former speaker is reelected, she will be the same age as Representative Grace Napolitano also of California by the conclusion of the term, according to CBS News. Napolitano is currently 86, the outlet reports.
Voters Aren’t Too Jazzed By Pelosi’s News
We could solve a lot of issues if you just didn’t run for reelection.

X users had mixed reactions to Pelosi’s news in the announcement’s thread.
One user responded, “We could solve a lot of issues if you just didn’t run for reelection.”
“please retire,” another responded.
“We need age limits in DC,” another user wrote. Another echoed a need for term limits.
The term “she’s 83” began trending amid Pelosi’s announcement.
“She’s 83. The last thing this woman needs is to be making serious decisions about the fate of our country,” Citizen Free Press posted.
She’s 83 but ready to run again…

One user worked in Taylor Swift into the former Speaker’s news.
“I gotta start eating healthy and exercising because I need to live long enough for Taylor’s tell-all autobiography she’s gonna publish when she’s 83,” they wrote.
“Ugh, she’s 83 and will be nearly 87 at the end of her next term (assuming she wins re-election). It’s time for fresh minds!” another user said.
“She’s 83 now, 84 by the election, almost 85 by the start of the next term & she’s corrupt AF. She’s refused to debate for 30+ years. She only wants to stay to keep that corruption going and to prevent any kind of meaningful change to happen that benefits the people. Retire Nancy,” another user weighed in.
The former Speaker of the House has not commented on any reactions to her announcement.
Pelosi’s decision to step down as the Speaker of the House was announced last November.
“With great confidence in our caucus, I will not seek reelection to Democratic leadership in the next Congress. For me the hour has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect,” Pelosi said in a speech on the House floor. “I’m grateful that so many are ready and willing to shoulder this awesome responsibility,” Pelosi explained, per NPR.
