MasterChef Australia star Matt Preston reveals devastating family news as he bursts into tears during filming of Dancing With The Stars

Matt Preston has revealed his mother died of bone cancer just months before he was invited to perform on Dancing With The Stars Australia.

The former judge MasterChef, 61, said he was unable to mourn his death properly until he started filming for the Channel Seven show.

He said his dance partner Jessica Raffa, 39, whose husband also has blood cancer, helped him through his grief.

The couple decided to choreograph a dance together to commemorate the loss of their mother and best friend who died of the same disease.

The celebrity chef said he was in tears throughout the heartfelt performance.

“I think we tend to stay very upright when we’re going through grief,” he told 7Life.

“We take care of the funeral, we take care of the planning. [We think about] what are you going to do with their porcelain collection and what else you have to do.

“It tends to reduce grief and sadness when you focus on it so much. So all this can bubble to the surface, and I found the [dancing] incredibly cathartic.
