María Elena Salinas is an American journalist and author. She is one of the most well-known Hispanic female journalists in the United States. She works for CBS News as a contributor. Elena previously worked for Noticiero Univision as a co-anchor.
Salinas began her career as a journalist at KMEX-TV in Los Angeles as a reporter, anchor, and public affairs host. In 1987, she joined Noticiero Univision as an anchor. While there, she has interviewed prominent people such as former US Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, the former military dictator of Panama Manuel Noriega, and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega among others.
In 2017, Salinas began The Real Story with María Elena Salinas. It was an English-language crime program that aired on Investigation Discovery. In August 2017, she left Univision to become an independent news producer. In July 2019, she joined CBS News as a contributor for CBS This Morning. Her involvement in the network breaks down the diverse Latino communities across the United States.
