After panicking the sports world by talking about a possible retirement, LeBron James posted an enigmatic post on Instagram.
After a horrific start to the 2022 season, the Los Angeles Lakers returned to contention after trading Russell Westbrook. Westbrook was sent to the Clippers, the favorites to win the West, and the Lakers actually found themselves in the Western Conference Finals against the Nuggets. The Nuggets made it easy for the Lakers and swept them in four games and the center of the aftermath was Lebron James hinting at retirement.
King expressed his desire to play with his son Bronny James before leaving the league, but after hinting he would hang up his shirt, James softened his stance.
“I did what I had to do in this league, and my son is going to have his way,” James told ESPN at a press conference. “And whatever his journey, whatever his journey, he will do what is best for him. And like his father and mother, Savannah, and his brother and sister, we will support him in whatever he decides to do.
So just because it’s my aspiration or my goal doesn’t mean it’s his. And I absolutely agree with that.
On Sunday, the elite athlete fueled retirement rumors by quoting Jay Z on his InstaStory.
“I’m supposed to be #1 on everyone’s list. We’ll see what happens when I don’t exist anymore.”- James wrote.
The likelihood of a player like LeBron retiring without a farewell tour is remote, but some suspect he could take a year off and return in the 2024 season alongside his son.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
