Joanne Wood is a professional mixed martial artist from Scotland who currently competes in the women’s flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Additionally, she is an IKF European Flyweight Champion, ISKA World Flyweight Champion, and Muay Thai Champion. In 2021, Wood was in the women’s flyweight rankings. Talking about her upbringing, Wood completed her high school education at a local school in her hometown and later enrolled in the Muay Thai Center. There she was named STBA Fighter of the Year in 2009. She is also Scotland’s first professional mixed martial artist. Next, Wood fought newcomer Maryna Moroz and lost to her, taking her first official loss in her record. After her loss, she secured her position again when she fought with Cortney Casey and won the fight via unanimous decision before being replaced later by Rose Namajunas. Additionally, Joanne made a name for herself in women’s flyweight combat after winning the match against Valerie Létourneau on UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs. Thompson.
Afterwards, she also fought with Cynthia Calvillo and Jéssica Andrade where she lost both matches. From 2018 to 2019, Wood appeared in two matches where she fought with Ariane Lipski and Kalindra Faria and became the winner of both matches. Besides that, she also lost to Katlyn Chookagian, Viviane Araújo, Lauren Murphy, and Alexa Grasso. Additionally, she won the match via split decision over Luana Carolina at UFC 286.
