Jiayang Fan is a Chinese-American journalist and author. She works for The New Yorker as a Staff writer since 2016. Her reporting revolves around personal history, food critique, cultural and political commentary. Some of her publications have appeared on New Yorker.com and The New Yorker‘s magazine.
Fan joined The New Yorker in 2010 initially as a fact-checker then promoted to a staff writer and reporter. She became the first Chinese-born staff reporter for the company. Her work revolves around personal history, food critique, and cultural and political commentary.
She visited several restaurants while working as a fact-checker and that’s when she began to food critique for the magazine. She has written about Salon de Ning, a high-end Shanghai-style rooftop bar in the Peninsula New York, California-Mediterranean composite Covina, and Sichuan restaurant Málà Project.
