James Sparvero is an American multimedia journalist who serves as the Brevard County Reporter for WKMG News 6 in Brevard County, Florida. He has worked across markets in Baton Rouge, Parkersburg, Panama City, and South Florida.
James Sparvero Education
Sparvero attended South Park High School. He later joined Penn State University in 2005. Sparvero graduated in 2009 earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Broadcast Journalism. He also has a minor in Spanish. While in college he was a member of the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism and also the Penn State Greater Allegheny Men’s Varsity Basketball.
James Sparvero Career
Sparvero began his career as a sideline reporter, photographer, and television analyst with Xfinity High School Sports in the Florida Tri-County Area. He served as the freelance high school football and basketball sideline reporter. He was also the photographer for the Xfinity Game of The Week. James interviewed players, coaches, and fans, and operated one of four cameras televising the game. There he got to experience working with the Florida Panthers, the Miami Marlins, and the Miami Heat.
In July 2012, he moved to WJHG-TV in Panama City, Florida Area. There, he produced the two-hour WJHG-TV morning show, NewsChannel 7 Today, five days a week. Sparvero produced news with iNEWS, administrated the WJHG-TV Facebook page, and wrote news cut-ins for the TODAY show, among others. He also served as the morning news, health, sports, and social media reporter. He served as a fill-in anchor on sports and the weekend news.
In September 2013, Sparvero moved to WTAP News (FOX Parkersburg News) in Parkersburg, West Virginia Area. He served as a weekend anchor, producer, and reporter of WTAP News at 6 and 11. He was also a news reporter on weekdays and a fill-in anchor of WTAP News at 5, 6, and 11, and FOX Parkersburg News at 10.
In December 2014, James joined WAFB TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Area. He served as an anchor 9News Sunday Morning (one-hour broadcast), a news reporter, and a multimedia journalist from Sunday to Thursday. Spatvero served as the chief capitol correspondent during the 2015 Louisiana Legislative Session. Sparvero later transitioned to WKMG News 6 in March 2016.
