Jami Gertz was born on  October 28, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised in a middle-class family and attended Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois. She later went to college at NYU where she studied Drama.

She landed her first screen role at the age of 17 in “On the Right Track.” And afterward gained success after appearing in “Sixteen Candles,” “Solarbabies,” “Less Than Zero,” and “The Lost Boys.”

Jamie moved to France for a few years to work as a scent designer for Lanvin, and in 1997 she had a recurring role on the popular television series E.R. as Dr. Nina Pomerantz.
