A tweet posted to Twitter urged individuals to avoid Emory University’s Oxford College campus and stay where they were due to a “police emergency” without further details.

The first tweet was posted at 2:21 p.m., followed by another at 2:42 p.m.

FOX3 Now has been notified by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office that there have been reports of a man carrying a gun on campus.

As a result, the campus is currently on lockdown as law enforcement investigates the situation. A statement from the institution read: ‘There is a police emergency on the Oxford College campus at Murdy Hall.

The Oxford College campus is located near Covington.
