A top prosecutor says the man who murdered two young girls and dumped their bodies near a trail in Delphi, Indiana, repeatedly confessed to the murders, but the defense says these “incriminating statements “must not be trusted due to the suspect’s mental state. and physical condition.
“He made multiple confessions to multiple people,” Carroll County District Attorney Nicholas McCleland said during a hearing Thursday, according to WRTV. These alleged confessions would have occurred on five or six occasions.
“Confessions, non-confessions, incriminating statements, non-incriminating statements, we’ll deal with it,” defense attorney Bradley Rozzi said. “The jury will hear all of this.”
Richard Allen faces two counts of murder in the 2017 double murder of Abigail ‘Abby’ Williams, 13, and her friend Liberty ‘Libby’ German, 14, whose bodies were discovered in a wooded area right next to the Delphi Historic Trails system.
Abby and Libby went missing while walking the Monon High Bridge Trail near Delphi, Indiana on February 13, 2017. The trail crosses an abandoned stretch of what was once the Monon Railroad and crosses an old trestle above over a small river or stream. The girls were found dead the next day in an area near the trestle and their deaths were ruled a homicide.

The case remained unsolved for a long time, but law enforcement arrested Allen as the suspected killer in October 2022.
Thursday’s testimony did not give many details about Allen’s behavior in custody, although Westville Warden John Galipeau noted that the defendant exhibited “strange behavior” the day after receiving a legal work.
