The Coalition of National Electoral Observers (CODEO), indicates that it is deploying 15 observers for the by-election of Tuesday, June 27, 2023 in the Assin North constituency of the Center region.
The deployment, according to CODEO, is in part the fulfillment of its mandate to mobilize the citizens of Ghana to actively participate in the electoral process and complement the efforts of the Electoral Commission to ensure transparent, free, fair and peaceful elections. .
A statement released by the coalition on Friday said 13 of the observers will be deployed to 13 polling stations in 12 deliberately selected electoral areas, while the other two will be roving election day observers, with one observing the proceedings at the gathering center.

“They will observe the layout of polling stations, voting and counting procedures, and will also file reports on any incidents they observe throughout the day,” the statement said.
Three candidates are vying for the seat, declared vacant by the Election Commission after the Supreme Court overturned the election of Mr James Gyakye Quayson of the Democratic National Congress in the 2020 elections.
Candidates for Tuesday’s by-election are; Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
