Andre’ M. Bernier is a famous American meteorologist, working as the Cleveland-based WJW-TV’s weekday evening meteorologist. Bernier earned two Emmy Awards for his weathercasts and has been at the FOX 8 News since February 1988, when Cleveland’s very first full-length local morning newscast started. Following almost twenty years on weekday mornings, he moved to the weekday prime time on May 28, 2007.

Bernier attended New Bedford High School graduating in 1977. He then joined Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in 1981.

Following his graduation, he left New England to accept his first role as a weekend meteorologist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at eastern Iowa’s then-premiere station KGAN (then known as WMT-AM-FM-TV). Following just eight months, he left Iowa to join the then speculative national cable channel statt-up known as The Weather Channel. He and Bruce Kalinowski (Edwards) were the very first on-camera meteorology team when The Weather Channel began broadcasting on Sunday, May 2, 1982, at 8:00 PM EDT.
Bernier then moved to Minneapolis in 1985, where he served at WWTC-AM (the only commercial AM radio station in the U.S. to attempt an all-weather format. He also worked at Northwest Airlines (as a trans-Atlantic flight forecaster) and finally at KARE-TV, Minneapolis, where he served with his wife, Sally (nee Patrick) during the weekday morning newscasts. He and his family moved to Cleveland, in 1988, where in the same year he started work at WJW Channel 8, working as the morning meteorologist until 2007 when he moved to evenings.
Other ventures
Asides from being a meteorologist, he is active in digital film production, having been mentored by Hollywood film director Jason Tomaric. Apart from a number of shorts, his filmography consists of the mid-feature-length drama, ”Christmas Lights In Pilaf” (2004) based on the first chapter of his Christian novel, ”Welcome To Pilaf.”
His most recent is a full-length documentary about a family from France who, with their life savings, bought an old, abandoned building in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, to open an authentic French bistro. ”French Toast” (2006) has been submitted to many film festivals in the U.S. including Utah, DC, Cleveland, and Dallas, and also the national Telly Awards. Bernier has also written several books such as a faith-based Christmas novel series, ”Christmas novel series, ”Christmas In Pilaf”, and an autobiographical timeline, ”The Extra Mile.”
