2 people injured in shooting on I-295 in Yarmouth, 1 suspect arrested another at large

Update: According to Maine State Police, two individuals were fatally shot at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on I-295 in Yarmouth. Authorities said one of the victims is in critical condition and both have been taken to hospital.

Additionally, Maine State Police reported that one person was apprehended in connection with the incident.

Law enforcement officials said they have information that leads them to suspect a second person of interest and are currently looking for them. People nearby have been asked to remain vigilant.

According to the Maine Department of Transportation, the southbound lanes of I-295 in Yarmouth remain closed, causing significant traffic congestion in the area.

Maine State Police are currently present at Exits 15 & 17/East Main Street on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth, where an “incident” has occurred resulting in the closure of a section of the freeway.

The Maine Department of Transportation reports that the closure on the south side of I-295 is in effect.

To ease traffic, exit 17 is being used as a detour, although authorities have advised vehicles to exit earlier, particularly exit 20.

Authorities have said they may close the north side of the highway and are currently considering that option.

Yarmouth Police have advised residents to stay indoors and take shelter.
